Little Fantasia op. 73
Little Fantasia for violin and piano, written in 1997, was a Stiftung Niedersachsen commission for the International Violin Competition in Hanover. The piece consists of only one part, in which the composer moves freely from lyrical, atmospheric sections to lively, rhythmical syncopated fragments of jazz-like character in the central section of the Fantasia. The composition is dominated, however, by the aura of quiet lyricism and pensive melancholy so characteristic of Górecki’s later music.
