Cantata op. 26 for organ (perf. Joachim Grubich)
Cantata op. 26 for organ was composed in 1968 for the organ competition held in Kamień Pomorski by the Szczecin Music Society and the Polish Composers’ Union. The piece won first prize and was first performed during that competition. Like the Musiquettes, the Cantata explores the acoustic and expressive potential of selected, limited sound material. In the external sections of the piece, the use of the organ allows the composer to build dense sustained clusters characterised by immense expressive intensity. In the central part, the choice of solo instrument provides an opportunity to interweave tones of moderate dynamics with short and lively, sharp-sounding motifs.
